Decor For Your Laundry Room
In many homes the laundry room is in the basement, or some off to the side room that no one wants to go to. In a busy household laundry is one of those things that is a pain in the butt but has to get done. Why wouldn’t you want that space to be more relaxing and put together?
We all live in a crazy go go go world, the spaces in your home should be relaxing and not more stressful. Laundry areas should be about efficiency and storage. However for some reason they seem to feel like more of mess and full of chaos.
Think about everything this room needs to be for you, and keep these things in mind when coming up with a design concept. The laundry room may end up being an untapped resource for storage and function.
A well functioning laundry room should have a counter for folding, some shelves or cabinets above the counter and some cabinets below as well. This will be a great place to store a lot of your household cleaning supplies. Depending on how you wash your cloths, you may want to make sure you have some space for a drying wrack or hang bar.
Part of your design should also include a good coat of paint. Pick a colour that makes you happy, it will make being in there a better experience. Depending on the size of the room you may also want to consider choosing a lighter colour to give the space a more open feel.
Now when doing up your laundry room, this is in no way like re-doing a kitchen or bathroom. You don’t need to go and buy high end cabinets, nice countertops and a new sink. You can always just visit your local hardware store and find simple and cost effective pieces. Pre fab built in’s for the cabinets are always a great option, keep it simple. Remember anything is better than the dark creepy basement feel or the whole in the wall room.
Have fun decocting, transforming a new space in your home can really feel like an accomplishment 🙂 If you have any ideas to share, please leave a comment below…
